LBCC Greenhouse(week 3)

Image
This week, for our photojournalism assignment, we were instructed to choose one subject/event and come away having photographed a wide, medium, and close-up of our chosen subject. I found my self with several photographic opportunities this week and it came down to what to choose to fulfill the assignment (I may post the other photographs in a separate blog post.) For the assignment, I chose the impromptu photoshoot of the LBCC greenhouse and Alex Loveday’s personal project of cultivating varieties of strawberries.  I ran into Alex at the American Association for Woman in Community Colleges’ (AAWCC) Earth Week booth, on the LBCC Albany Campus. In honor of Earth Week, the AAWCC was giving away potted plants, flower seeds, and baby Douglas fir trees. Alex and I were both there to get plants (I was also there for photos.) Russia had just invaded Afghanistan and the boarders were being restricted. The group of refugees helped smuggle McCurry into Afghanistan where he spent months ...

Unidentified Flying. . .

Image
The term at LBCC is cruising along and admittedly this blog post for Photojournalism is a wee bit past due. It is photographer's choice and this photographer chose to photograph McMinnville Oregon’s own UFO festival. Since 1999 (excluding 2020 being canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic) McMenamins’s Hotel Oregon ,in McMinnville, Oregon, has hosted their annual UFO festival. For the 3 day event, the city of McMinnville closes its historic downtown on 3rd street to vehicle traffic as thousands of spectators and participants come from near and far. The event is in honor of locals Paul and Evelyn Trent who, on May 11, 1950, sighted and photographed what appeared to be a flying saucer.  The Event draws people who participate to varying degrees, from simple accessories to elaborate full body suits. Regardless of attire, there are many that take the event quite seriously as Pacific Narrowest restaurant chain McMenamins (who founded and hosts the event) features guest speakers on th...
