What is happening on campus?

America Association of Woman in Community Colleges (AAWCC) holds their annual clothing sale in front of the Linn Benton Community College, Albany campus Library. All items for the sale were donated to the AAWCC. All clothing items are priced at $1 each--to make clothing accessible to all students and staff-- and the proceeds from sales will go to funding programs that support students. The AAWCC plans to use what clothing remains after the sale to make a professional clothes closet, where students can go get a clean outfits for job interviews, etc.

In honor of Giving Day, May 10th 2023, the LBCC foundation provides a free pancake feed in the Albany campus court yard. Taking a brake from flipping pancakes, Jim Birken spectates a lively game of checkers being played on the jumbo checkers board that is being raffled to benefit the foundation. Birken is the Planned Giving Manager for the LBCC foundation and oversees accounting and taxes for large donations.

May 10th 2023 is giving day at LBCC and students had the opportunity to participate in a scavenger hunt in order to be entered into a drawing for LBCC college credit. Zeph Port (center) moments after it is announced he is the winner of a $500 scholarship. Port is on staff as an Engagement Leader for the LBCC student leadership and holds the award for “best high-five." Port’s friends Bre Tainatongo (left) and ZuZu Alsulaimawi (right) join Port as he celebrates the exciting win.

 Dirt Road: A Photo Story By Evan Finley & Clayton Lynch Dirt Road Brewing is a local brewery/pub located at 13th and main downtown Philomath, OR. Since 2019, Dirt Road has been serving the community fresh artisan pizza and a wide variety of in-house brewed beer. Despite spending the majority of its time open under COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, Dirt Road is thriving, expanding and has become a Philomath staple. Dirt Road opened its doors to the public in August of 2019, but founder Chuck Cox has been brewing beer for quite a while. It all started in his garage with a home brew kit. Overtime, the brewing system in Cox’s garage grew larger and more advanced as the positive feedback from friends and family grew. Cox says opening the pub was a part of the natural progression. Before Cox started Dirt Road he was a builder and contractor, as most of the operations of the brewery and pub have been taken over by his head brewer and staff, Cox continues to build houses on the side.  Dirt

Hometown [current]: Philomath, OR

 This week “hometown” photos is par for the course, for the ol’ photojournalism class. I feel like I have had a number of “hometown’s “ in my relatively short life, that is why I chose to take photos in the town I live in. And a great little town it is: Philomath, Oregon. This building is an unmistakable landmark in Philomath. It is located on the northwest end of Philomath’s downtown. Purpose built to be a college in 1867, it functioned as such until 1929. Following the close of the college, the building was used as a church, it is now one of the Benton County Historical Society's museums and features both fixed and rotating guest exhibits. Unidentified Flying. . .

 The term at LBCC is cruising along and admittedly this blog post for Photojournalism is a wee bit past due. It is photographer's choice and this photographer chose to photograph McMinnville Oregon’s own UFO festival. Since 1999 (excluding 2020 being canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic) McMenamins’s Hotel Oregon ,in McMinnville, Oregon, has hosted their annual UFO festival. For the 3 day event, the city of McMinnville closes its historic downtown on 3rd street to vehicle traffic as thousands of spectators and participants come from near and far. The event is in honor of locals Paul and Evelyn Trent who, on May 11, 1950, sighted and photographed what appeared to be a flying saucer.  The Event draws people who participate to varying degrees, from simple accessories to elaborate full body suits. Regardless of attire, there are many that take the event quite seriously as Pacific Narrowest restaurant chain McMenamins (who founded and hosts the event) features guest speakers on the top
